Snow Drive Expedition Narkanda-Sangla 2021 (5N/6D)

Snow drive through deodar forests in the remote places of Himachal! Did ever such a thought cross your mind? If yes, we can make it happen. Because visiting Himachal during winters is fascinating, but the idea of snow drive is altogether a different adventure and thrill.

If you are a motorhead and adventure enthusiast, a fresh edition of Snow Drive Expedition awaits you in the remote hills of Shimla as soon as a fresh spell of snow beautifies the entire valley. Once you reach Narkanda, mother nature starts unfolding her beautiful secrets such as Baga Sarahan, Daran Ghati, Sangla, Chitkul, etc. hidden deep in the Himalayas.

Narrow village streets covered in fresh snow, rows of leafless apple trees standing in the cold with their branches pointing to the blue sky, modern yet rustic wood and stone houses, picturesque landscapes and curvy rivers, there is so much more you are going to witness during the Snow Drive Expedition Narkanda-Sangla.
We might witness heavy snow at some places, but that doesn’t stop us from marching ahead. We keep cruising forward through snow-laden conifer trees and slopes to reach our next destination. Small villages and meadows covered in snow look like a perfect wonderland. Hidden in the aloofness of Himalayas, these small Himalayan kingdoms are known for being a thriving habitat of leopards and gorals.

Worried about your safety while driving on snow? We have a team of experts who have drove on these roads for decades. Our backup vehicles are well equipped with required rescue equipment. Our snow drive expedition ensures an unmatched thrill and adventure, and utmost safety.

Reach Narkanda by evening and check into the hotel/resort for an overnight stay. Treat yourself to some music, bonfire and picturesque views of snow-covered mountains. At an altitude of 2708 m, Narkanda is a beautiful place covered in snow. This place is about 65 km from Shimla on National Highway 05. It’s a six-hour drive from Chandigarh.

Day 02

Narkanda to Baga Sarahan/Daran Ghati

After breakfast, we will have a briefing session with all the participants followed by an introduction of guests with the crew. After warming up our vehicles, our convoy will leave at about 10.00-10:30 A.M for our next destination. Our convoy will drive downhill, crushing the snow, from Narkanda to reach the Sutlej river bank. We will drive along the river bank until we take a connecting road branching from NH 05 before Rampur to reach Baga Sarahan. We will reach Baga Sarahan before evening to witness an open meadow with a small temple in one corner of it. We will have (packed) lunch on the way to our destination, and call it a day at Baga Sarahan.

We have an alternative destination and adventure route that leads to Daran Ghati (to add a different flavor to the adventure trip). Road to Daran Ghati branches off at Rampur. We start ascending for 2 hours to reach Daran Ghati.

As this is a pure leisure tour, there shall be no competition among the participants. It is about enjoying the thrill and adventure in the snowy terrain.

Day 03

Baga Sarahan/Daran Ghati to Sangla

Today we venture into a different direction to explore a different terrain. We start early in the morning to experience the thrill of driving on a completely unseen route. First we drive downhill to reach NH 05. We drive along the left bank of Sutlej River until Karcham. This is the place where a road birficates to the right, leading to Sangla valley. We drive into the Baspa Valley until we reach Sangla in the evening. This is the place for an overnight stay. After dinner, we dance to local tunes and share our adventure tales and experiences by the bonfire.

Day 04

Sangla to Chitkul

Beautiful views of Sangla Valley haven’t yet ceased to overwhelm us, Baspa Valley has another beautiful gem hidden in its remoteness. Every vehicle follows each other while maintaining a minimum distance of 100 metres from the next. It’s a relatively easy climb. Vives on the right side are amazing. We drive for about 24 km to reach Chitkul – the last village on Hindustan-Tibbet road. The small village greets us with majestic landscapes filled with open valley, small hamlet and Baspa river flowing by its side. We explore the village and stop here for a tasty lunch. In the evening, we head back to Sangla for an overnight stay at a hotel situated in the middle of apple orchards.

Day 05

Sangla to Narkanda

After breakfast, it’s time to head back to where we started on day 01 – Narkanda. We will stop at places to capture the moments we might have missed while chasing our next destinations. We will recall the beautiful memories we made on these roads and celebrate them with dance and music. The drive from Sangla to Narkanda is going to be a long one as we will cover over 160 km in one stretch, we need to keep ourselves focused and fuelled. After driving for about 6-7 hours, we will reach Narkanda in the evening for an overnight stay in a hotel/resort.
